Aztec Adventure - a trip out on a sit on top kayak

Aztec Adventure is a watersports centre in Upton Warren near Bromsgrove.

It offers kayaking, canoeing, inflatables and a wide variety of adventure activities such as high ropes and climbing.

It has three sites, Upton Warren, Lower Moor and a climbing wall at Evesham Leisure Centre.

Aztec Adventure, Upton Warren, is a great site and offers a very scenic place to paddle.

So - Moo and I decided to hire a double sit on top kayak and have a paddle!

The sit on top kayaks are basic with no fitted seats, but perfectly fine for a short time on the water. The paddles were Schlegel Duralen kayak paddles which I have myself so I was happy to use them.

Buoyancy aids were provided and a quick safety brief given before we set off.

Moo hadn't paddled before so she chose to sit at the front and supervise which way we went!

The lake at Upton Warren is large and, in inclement weather, does have winds to contend with. However, it's easy to find sheltered spots to chill and watch the birds.

Moo wanted to paddle out and see as many birds as possible!

Paddling the sit on top is easy and it does tend to stay in a straight line. It is stable and provides a great platform from which to see the scenery.

You are not allowed to take any bags with you so we did miss out on mid-trip snacks!

We paddled over to the floating platform and around it to the other side of the lake. Although the session is only an hour, this is plenty of time on this size of lake.

The site at Aztec Adventure Upton Warren is a nature reserve and the variety of birds on the lake is wide. From geese to ducks to swans and many others as well.

The birds also seem to be used to seeing poeple so it is easy to get close enough for great photos. Moo took the one above!

We also enjoyed watching the groups on the floating inflatables.

These are giant inflatable slides, ramps, platforms and objects in the water. Participants wear a wetsuit and buoyancy aid and have fun climbing, running and jumping on them.

Ed and his friend, Jasper had previously been on these and really enjoyed it.

This is a great way of trying out a sit on top kayak to see if it could be the craft and sport for you.

You don't need any specialist equipment, just some warm clothes and a waterproof jacket (depending on the weather). It's unlikely you will fall in - although it is a possibility.

The cost of the kayak hire for 1 hour was £12 (see website below for up to date pricing).

Moo and I had a great time and we would recommend this trip to you.
